Today’s The Age features an article that shows the hardships of homelessness, especially as winter sets in. For the homeless, winters are traumatic as they struggle to stay warm.
According to Melbourne Citymission’s manager of Front Yard Youth Services, Brett McDonnell, homelessness is on the rise, with their organisation having seen 400 more clients so far this year, compared to last year. Charity organisations are doing all they can to help the homeless, but as the nights get colder the demand for food and shelter increases, leaving little to go around. Melbourne Citymission’s winter appeal starts in August. For more information or to donate, visit their website www.melbournecitymission.org.au.

The plight of the homeless is a concern. Although it need not be in a country like Australia. I am always in awe of organisations that support and help those who are on the streets… even if many are ‘homeless’ because they choose to.
