The recent Tasmanian Greens’ motion that expressed in-principle support for ‘marriage equality’ (same-sex marriage) has left many confused and some even thinking Tasmania has legalised same-sex marriage! Even my brother in NZ heard it reported over there as such.
The motion passed was not a bill and was in effect inconsequential as all it did is tell the federal government that the Tasmanian Labor-Greens alliance supports redefining marriage, something already well known. The motion did not go through the upper house so was not a reflection of the views of the Tasmanian Parliament either.
Please keep informed on this debate through the new Australian Marriage Forum, dedicated to this important issue. Australian Marriage Forum has been developed to help people understand the same-sex marriage debate, send emails to pollies, and sign a petition that targets the ALP national conference in early December.

“The recent Tasmanian Greens’ motion that expressed in-principle support for ‘marriage equality’ (same-sex marriage) has left many confused and some even thinking Tasmania has legalised same-sex marriage! I heard about this through the (obviously pro-homosexual lobby) reporting, and got the impression that Tasmanian parliament supported same-sex marriage as well, when it wasn’t the case. The language used in reporting gave me the impression. Thank you for putting some sense back into the ‘gay marriage’ debate!
The media coverage of this was appalling, the headlines in Tasmania were “Green Light for Gay Marriage.” After reading through the article it was almost impossible to pick up that it was only a motion and not an Act. It’s a pity the media is so biased in this area.
After giving a talk on the petition at church on Sunday, and urging all to respond, and having set up my laptop in the foyer, nearly all the church signed up electronically. I also pointed out that our Braddon representative Sid Sidebottom had the question on gay marriage on his web-site http://www.sidsidebottom.com. Pre-church, his question was running about 49% for, 50% against and 1% undecided. If you are in the Braddon electorate, please check your preference on his website ASAP.
