The New South Wales State Government recently announced plans to set minimum length of time for the teaching of religious classes in schools.
In a story in the Daily Telegraph, Education Minister Adrian Piccoli said that, “other activities have encroached on the delivery of special religious education” (SRE).
A minimum time of 30 minutes of meaningful teaching time per week in primary schools, and a minimum of one period of meaningful teaching time per week in secondary schools for Special Religious Education has now been set.
The Australian Christian Lobby welcomes the move to set a minimum time for Special Religious Education and agrees that setting a minimum time will make sure other activities won’t encroach on the delivery of SRE, and will honour the time and effort volunteers devote to the job.

I think people should have the right to pick and choose whether to send their children to either ethics or scripture classes. I dont agree that Fred Nile should be agreeing on other important issues such as electricity privitisation and reducing Police disabilities, just so he can ban ethic classes.
