MEDIA RELEASE
Wednesday, February 8, 2012

The Australian Christian Lobby has welcomed Campbell Newman’s willingness to address ChristianLeaders and his forthrightness with them in the lead up to the state election, at tonight’s Make it Count event in Brisbane.
The ACL’s Queensland Director Wendy Francis said Mr Newman’s comments regarding chaplaincy, anti-discrimination legislation, outdoor advertising, adoption and civil unions legislation received a welcome response.
“While ACL would want more proactive action on problem gambling, alcohol restrictions and prostitution, it seems neither major party is willing to take the steps most Christians would expect in these areas,” she said.
“Mr Newman’s address praised the work of chaplaincy and noted the positive feedback he’d received in the electorate about this program.
“On the issue of free speech, Mr Newman agreed the anti-discrimination act has been used in the past to suppress free speech.
“It’s also good news to get Mr Newman’s commitment, that if elected, he would fight to see outdoor advertising G-Rated because advertisements
today are too sexualised for children to see in public places.
“The LNP leader also said that the LNP had not changed its party position on Civil Unions and would consider what to do with these dependent on where the ALP left them.
“Mr Newman’s comment about removing red tape from adoption processes and promoting adoption to women during unwanted pregnancies is positive for the unborn and will see the state’s abortion rate drop from its present level of 15,000 each year.
“Christians would have wanted more positive action on problem gambling,” she said, “Introducing pre-commitment technology is part of the Productivity Commission’s recommendations and is the only real way to solve the issue,” she said.
Ms Francis said it is expected thousands of Christians will watch the web address in the lead up to the March 24th election and that the leaders present had very much appreciated Mr Newman’s willingness to take their questions in the absence of the Premier.
The address will be uploaded to http://www.qldvotes.org.au/ in the coming days.

I actually thought Mr Newman’s responses to the issues of Gambling, alcoholism and prostitution were quite reasonable given that he is looking more at dealing with the source of the problem rather than creating Big Brother with a big stick solutions.
It’s also interesting that this media release doesn’t mention that Captain Bligh and her first mate refused to show – and why would they when Bligh is supported by Emily’s list and has introduced measures such as adoption by same sex couples, bringing our legislative morality to an all time low. She has also exploded debt levels and the corresponding interest payments, as well as essential utilities and cost of living expenses, placing huge pressures on families.
Johnathon,
Thanks for your comment, but we did make it very clear in the lead up to this that the Premier had “snubbed” Christians by not attending adn also did make reference to her non show in the last line ” …leaders present had very much appreciated Mr Newman’s willingness to take their questions in the absence of the Premier.”
cheers
Jim
My husband, Doug and I were pleased to have specially made the trip down from Toowoomba to hear Mr Campbell Newman. Congratulations to ACL leaders, Brig. Jim Wallace & Wendy Francis for organizing the program.
Mr Newman spoke well and answered questions put to him in a positive and forthright manner.
I personally believe as a Christian that marriage is between one man and one woman and am against same sex unions. ‘Marriage’ should never be used for same sex relationships and I would hope and pray that the LNP will take that stand.
Thank you for the opportunity to hear Mr Newman in such an open forum.
Jonathan: just to clarify, Bligh has not introduced adoption for same-sex couples in Queensland. Only married couples in Qld can adopt, which precludes gay couples, as the Civil Partnership bill does not include adoption provisions.
Mrs Bligh seems to have forgotten that it was Christian organizations that gave the greatest financial and other support after the Queensland floods than her government and other fundraisers combined.
Did she know that the lions share of all social services provided in her state comes from Christians and their churches and organizations?
Yet again a ‘leader’ who is happy to accept the time, effort and money from Christians wherever there is a problem, but unwilling to listen to any of their concerns or questions, in fact she seems to use any opportunity she can to make derogatory remarks about the ‘religious right’ (as if that’s something to be ashamed of).
This would have been a great opportunity for her to thank the leaders of these organizations for all their outstanding work and making her job that much easier.
Mr Newman should have been pinned down to give his views on same sex marriage as he has said that he supported same sex marriage in the past. He skirted around this topic by stating that the LNP voted against the Civil Partnerships Bill. He also said that children were best off if they had “two parents” but carefully avoided saying that this should be a”Father and a Mother.”
I share Geoffrey Lapthorne’s concerns on this point. I have noted in the past that Mr. Newman has said he supported same sex marriage, and this worried me very much. Hopefully he has realised how wrong this is. If the present Queensland government manages to pass the Civil Partnerships Bill into law it will be yet another mess for the next government to cope with. I was impressed by Mr. Newman’s answers on all other topics.
I am not impressed with Mr Newman at all the guys a first class hypocrite, he has clearly stated recently in the past he embraces homosexual marriage and christians are too weak and negotiable on their scirptures to be so conned by this debate. So why didnt ACL invite Mr Katter or Mr Lindon from the Australia Party to the forum also…?
Campbell Newman has stated publicly that he is in favour of same -sex marriages and has not changed his stance (and the ensuing educational ,legal and health changes that will be forced on the entire population through legislation – as in Massachuettes (USA) in 2008 where kindergarden children are now exposed to the presentation of homosexual couples , lesbian couples, transvestites and persons undergoing a sex change and are TOLD that these “marriages” are the SAME as your mum and dad at home. So, we need to protect this and the next generation from such an abomination.
We should not vote for any politician who is in favour of same-sex marriage, porn, abortion and should be pushing additional policies such as – non sale of Govt assets, agriculture, manufacturing, sensible & balanced mining not the current fracking method in Central & Southern Q’ld which is poisoning the water supply and leaving tones of salt that is useless for any purpose.
WAKE UP people. Don’t be swayed by more atheistic, socialist policies and lies. Being a North Queenslander and being fed up with dishonest, incompetent State and Fed Govts this election I am voting for Katter as Newman (like Bligh) WILL eventually sell off the electricity and water resources to an overseas buyer and he can’t be trusted.
Above Maryborough the rest of Q’ld doesn’t exist and we have been shortchanged on hospitals, roads, jobs, mental heath etc for decades as out wealth goes south to prop up the South East and to build football stadiums which should be a low priority.
I agree with your comments on homosexuality, it is in fact a disease and the so called christian churches down here in Brisbane are too weak (Laiodacien) to make their stand against such a hypocrite such as Newman & Blight. I agree with the LORD! it makes me want to vomit too… all this fake posturing, what a disgrace and indeed an abomination.
I will be advising vote 1 the Australian party this time round too, at least till the majors detox the pox thats in their houses. And let hope and pray Mr Katter & his team, by the grace of our Lord Yeshua will be able to jetteson the Greens into oblivion.
The hate and vitriol displayed by so called Christians against homosexuals has got to stop. Gay Marriage will one day happen in Australia it’s only a matter of time (the sooner the better). I for one am glad that Cambell Newman supports gay marriage however am very disappointed at his decision to repeal Civil Unions should he win power, thereby taking away rights of gay couples in QLD. Recent polling has indicated that a majority of the Australian public supports gay marriage and not only that polling also indicates that the majority of Christians also support gay marriage. It’s great that more and more denominations, pastors and priests are speaking out in support of gay marriage.
Galaxy Research polling (2009-2011) shows:
62% of Australians support marriage equality,
A majority of Christians (53%) support marriage equality,
76% of Coalition voters want Abbott to allow a conscience vote,
75% believe the reform is inevitable, and
80% of young people (18-24 years) support marriage equality.

There is plenty of support for gay marriage. I encourage all readers to read the book, what the bible really says about homosexuality by Daniel Helminiak. Read with an open mind. You may be surprised. Rather than blindly following mistranslations and literalism it maybe worth considering the cultural context when the various references to homosexuality in the bible were written and also some of the references are referring to homosexual rape etc and not consensual activity etc. It’s a short book and well worth a look!. God Bless.
