The Australian Christian Lobby today welcomed the Victorian government’s plans to hold a Royal Commission into family violence.

ACL Victorian State Director Dan Flynn said, “We were horrified to learn last year that on average one woman is killed each week as a result of intimate partner violence. This is an almost incomprehensible figure and is utterly unacceptable in modern Australia.”

Mr Flynn was pleased the Andrew’s government was taking the issue seriously and taking necessary steps toward solving the problem.

“This is a vital opportunity to examine police, support and reporting systems that are currently failing our women and children.

“We’re failing our families on so many fronts in our society. This is a heartening reminder that the Andrew’s government values family and a reminder to all of the need to preserve and actively support family in our society.”
