The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) today expressed concerns about plans for a state memorial service for former Federal Labor Minister and Northern Territory Senator Bob Collins.

ACL Managing Director Jim Wallace said that acting NT Opposition Leader Terry Mills was justified in requesting that a state funeral not go ahead while child sex allegations against Mr Collins are unresolved.

“With the problem of child sexual assault such a priority issue of concern in the Northern Territory it is all the more important that the right messages are sent on this topic,” Mr Wallace said.

“While we have sincere sympathy for Mr Collins’ family, until such time as the allegations against Mr Collins are resolved it would be far better that a state memorial service not go ahead.”
