Media Release: Wednesday, 20th January, 2010

The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) has given its support to a rally in Sydney today to register the appalling situation of Copts in Egypt, after a drive-by shooting killed 7 Christians leaving a church after a Christmas service on 6th January, the Coptic Orthodox Christmas.

"This is simply another act in a series of violent attacks on Copts in Egypt, many seemingly designed to destroy the economic viability of Coptic communities," ACL Managing Director Jim Wallace said.

The ACL called on the Australian Government to register concern with the Egyptian Government that Coptic communities be guaranteed the same level of protection and security as other ethnic or religious communities.
