Australian citizens continue to send the message to parliament – please protect marriage.

Thousands of people have signed four petitions tabled in the House of Representatives in the last two weeks by John Murphy, the Labor Member for Reid in Sydney’s western suburbs.

The petitions asked the House not to amend the Marriage Act, which defines marriage as “the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life”.

Last year, the Australian Christian Lobby’s petition was presented in Parliament with over 52,000 signatures, the largest in the life of this parliament.

A new petition was then taken to the Labor national conference in December with more than 100,000 signatures.

In total, the three petitions tabled on May 21st and the one on May 28th were signed by more than 15,000 Australians.

Australians continue to support the ideal of the natural family and children being raised by their mother and father wherever possible.
