A Greens’ push to quash peaceful political protest is hypocritical and Orwellian according to the Australian Christian Lobby.
ACL Managing Director Lyle Shelton said the ACT Greens happily support law-breaking activity such as slashing CSIRO trial crops with whipper snippers but want to make it illegal for people to quietly pray outside an abortion clinic on public property.
Mr Shelton said it was also notable that Tasmanian Greens, who like to chain themselves to tractors in forests, did not support exclusion zone legislation there.
“Greens ideology is becoming more and more totalitarian. Just like in Orwell’s famous book Animal Farm ‘all animals are equal but some are more equal than others’ in the Greens’ view of the world,” Mr Shelton said.
“Whether or not the Greens like it, the taking of human life in the womb is an issue that should be debated politically and not silenced.
“Our society’s inability to support women with unsupported pregnancies to the point where abortion is so widespread is a matter of serious public policy and people are right to express a view publicly by way of protest or prayer.
“If the Greens are so sure that abortion laws uphold the human rights of women with unsupported pregnancies and the human rights of unborn babies they will have nothing to fear by people praying outside abortion clinics,” Mr Shelton said.
