This week the Tasmanian Liberal Senator Guy Barnett tabled a petition supporting the current definition of marriage, between a man and a woman, in the Senate.

More than 16,500 people signed the petition. Senator Barnett said the signatures, collected from Tasmania and around Australia, came in a six week period.

.

“The marriage debate to date has been adult-centred. There needs to be a far greater focus on what is in the best interests of our children. The rights of kids have been neglected in this debate so far,” Senator Barnett said.

“I call on the silent majority to speak up and express their view in support of marriage before it is too late. Once the definition is changed by Parliament it will be changed forever.”

The ACL also has a petition supporting marriage on our Make a Stand website. So far, nearly 20,000 people have signed our petition to support the current definition between a man and woman. If you haven’t already signed it, go to www.makeastand.org.au.
