Qld: ALP Rushing Assisted Suicide Laws

Queenslanders have reason to fear that that the ALP Government is planning to rush new euthanasia laws through the Parliament with the least scrutiny possible, according to the Australian Christian Lobby.

Queensland’s Health Minister, Shannon Fentiman, announced in Parliament this week that the ALP government will be pushing for a short implementation time frame for their proposed assisted suicide laws.

ACL’s Queensland Director, Wendy Francis said today, “The rush to commence euthanasia is putting vulnerable Queenslanders at risk. Well over 5,000 Queenslanders have signed a parliamentary epetition calling on the government to follow proper process and prioritise palliative care for every Queenslander.

“We are calling upon the Queensland Government to concentrate on addressing the State’s desperate palliative care deficit, not look for ways to kill,” says Mrs Francis. “This is what Queenslanders expect.”

Please sign the government petition by 9 May to call for full and proper scrutiny of the bill, and for an urgent increase to palliative care funding.
