Last week Queensland Premier Campbell Newman announced that the state election would be held on January 31.



Premier Newman led the Liberal National Party to an overwhelming victory in 2012, taking 78 out of 87 seats, with Labor winning just seven. The Government's popularity has wavered since then and polls suggest a much closer election is likely this time.
