ACL was pleased to welcome Opposition Leader Bill Shorten to its 2014 National Conference.

While Mr Shorten used his speech to reiterate his support for redefining marriage, he misrepresented the role Christians have played in the debate. ACL’s Lyle Shelton said Christians participating in the public debate had never invoked God and the Bible to put down other people.

“I was glad to be able to say this to him publicly,” Lyle said. ”I’m pleased that, despite our disagreement on marriage, Mr Shorten and Labor are keen to stay engaged with Christians.”

The National Conference included a terrific line up of speakers including Sydney Catholic Archbishop-elect Anthony Fisher, Assistant Immigration Minister Michaelia Cash, Shadow Indigenous Affairs Minister Shayne Newman and many others. Thank you for your prayers and support, which helped make it a success!
