The Age newspaper has reported that Greens MP and Member for Melbourne Adam Bandt asked the Prime Minister Julia Gillard a question on euthanasia in parliament today. In her answer, the Age reports that Ms Gillard responded that euthanasia is a conscience issue and that government has no intention of going down that path. Ms Gillard gives a comprehensive and thoughtful answer, noting the question has come from outside the chamber.



Euthanasia is a conscience issue, the Prime Minister says.



She says MPs are free to take that issue on, but the government has no intention of going down that path.



Ms Gillard speaks of the government's record on palliative care.



This is the way to go, she suggests.
