Thousands of people – men, women, young people, and children – marched with purpose through the streets of Brisbane City on Sunday, in a very public display of their support of life.
Signs were held high displaying slogans such as, “Choose Life”, “Cherish Life”, “Science shows he’s human”, “For Women, For Children, For Life”.
People from all walks of life were represented. Medical professionals and counsellors walked alongside mums and dads who walked alongside lawyers and pastors and parliamentarians. Speakers at the rally included LNP Dr Mark Robinson MP who referred to the crowd as the people of the “resistance”. LNP Senator designate for Queensland, Amanda Stoker, also spoke, saying; “The measure of a society is what we do to protect those who cannot speak for themselves”.
Cherish Life, the Australian Christian Lobby and the Australian Family Association presented a joint letter to Queensland parliamentarians calling on them to reject the push to allow abortion to birth for any reason, calling on them to fulfil their responsibility to support women and protect innocent human life.
This is going to be very important as we await the impending report from the Law Reform Commission after the Labor Government last year asked the Commission to review existing safeguards and “recommend how Queensland should amend its laws”.
In February, ACL Queensland director, Wendy Francis, commenced a Queensland Parliament e-petition calling on our government to consider the wellbeing of women and their need for better options and independent support and to consider the humanity of the unborn child and their inherent human rights, and in so doing, to reject the removal of restraint on abortion in Queensland.
Almost 8,000 have already signed but we only have until the end of April to sign this petition.
