South Australia – Beautiful Life Update

September is set to ramp up engagement in the Beautiful Life campaign to love both mums and their unborn children in SA and defeat the Liberal Attorney-General’s abortion to birth legislation, and I want to bring you up to date.

On Wednesday 23 September 2020 the Lower House of State Parliament will resume debate on the Bill to create at least 12 censorship zones in SA, where the topic of abortion may not be discussed. This is a precursor to the abortion to birth Bill.

The access or censorship zones Bill will restrict discussion about abortion in the Flinders University College of Medical and Public Health, as the zone around the Flinders Medical Centre encompasses the College. This is likely to be a first for Australia: that a statute which censors speech applies to a University and where discussion of a medical issue is curtailed on the premises of a medical college.

I have written to State MPs pointing this out and posing a series of questions that Labor MP Nat Cook, who is promoting the Bill, must answer. Numbers are close on the Minister David Spiers amendment to allow silent prayer. Pray this will be passed.

On 13 September 2020 I spoke in Minlaton on the Yorke Peninsula to a keen group of about 75 people to promote the campaign. Amanda also spoke on the Beautiful Life book and others including Jodi Pickard of Love Adelaide (which organizes the Walk for Life) also spoke. The people on the peninsula are energised to work in their area.

The next day I was interviewed by the editor of the Country Times (circulation on about 4,000) on the issue of abortion to birth. On 27 September I am speaking at Port Pirie (Lord willing), at the MID NORTH CHRISTIAN COLLEGE 43 Port Davis Road, Port Pirie. The start time is 2pm. If you live close by to Port Pirie please come along.

Please mark in your diaries that the next Walk for Life (God willling) is to be held on Saturday 6 February 2021. Save the date in your diaries. We need as many as possible at the Walk.

Finally, on a related matter, this week is Foster Care Week in SA. As the Sunday Mail reported on 13 September, there are about 4,300 children in foster care. This is eerily like the number of children aborted. The promise of the abortion promoters in 1969 that liberalising abortion would deal with the issue of unwanted children has been proved false. So will the promises of the abortion promoters today. Minister Rachel Sanderson wants to facilitate the adoption of foster children. This is a great initiative and she is to be commended. Take a moment to pray for her and this initiative and give her office (08 8269 4233) a ring to congratulate her.

Please be much in prayer for all of these matters and contact your local lower house MP asking them to reject the Access Zones Bill or at least to support the silent prayer amendment. Pray against the abortion to birth Bill. Ask your churches to pray. Pray as Jesus taught us, “Deliver us from evil”.
