The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) welcomes the Prime Minister’s strong affirmation of Senator Claire Chandler’s ‘Save Women’s Sport’ bill which calls for changes to the Sex Discrimination Act to confirm that the operation of single-sex sport on the basis of biological sex is not discriminatory.
The support for this bill from feminist, sporting and religious groups has been growing as professional sportswomen are increasingly being sidelined in their sport by biological men who identify as women.
National Director of Politics, Wendy Francis, said, “It is appropriate that the Prime Minister’s endorsement comes on the back of Australia’s most successful winter Olympics. Women deserve to compete on an equal footing. Senator Chandler’s bill will go a long way to restore the respect for women’s rights in this area.”
With the Federal Election looming, ACL calls on both the Government and the Opposition to make their position clear regarding protecting women’s sport.
