Are northern beaches’ libraries suitable for children?

The Australian Christian Lobby has raised concerns over the age-appropriateness of promoting WorldPride to children aged 3+ in Sydney’s Northern Beaches’ libraries.

NSW Political Director for the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), Rob Norman said, “State Libraries should return to their core business rather than promoting politically motivated adult events such as Sydney’s WorldPride festival. A growing number of parents are asking whether libraries remain suitable places for children.

“Parents who do not want their child exposed to adult themes or read to by Drag Queens should not be made to feel excluded from their local library which is meant to be an open family-friendly space.

“Three year old children should be celebrating their childhood, not WorldPride. The plethora of events targeting young children include ‘Drag Queen Story Time’ at Manly Library, ‘Rainbow Story Time’ at Dee Why, Mona Vale, Warringah, Glen Street, and Forestville libraries, and ‘Pin your Pride badge making’ at Northern Beaches.”

Mr. Norman concluded, “Our State libraries have no place promoting an event that includes many adult-only aspects. Let kids be kids.”

The Australian Christian Lobby calls on Northern Beaches’ libraries to abandon plans to host ‘Drag Queen Story Times’, ‘Rainbow Story Times’ and ‘Pin your Pride badge making’ events to ensure children are not exposed to adult themes.
