ACL applauds Liberals support of marriage

MEDIA RELEASE

The Australian Christian Lobby has applauded the Tasmanian Liberals motion supporting the time honoured definition of marriage being between a man and a woman. The motion was strongly supported by delegates at the weekend’s Liberal State Conference in Launceston.

ACL’s Tasmania Director Mark Brown said the vote was a positive affirmation of the importance of marriage to our community.

“Marriage is a vital institution for the stability and cohesion of society and it shouldn’t be redefined for anyone,” Mr Brown said.

“Marriage between a man and a woman has been an undisputed party policy for both major parties for decades and its definition has only in recent years been questioned due to the prolonged campaigns by the same-sex marriage lobby,” he said.

“The Tasmanian Liberal delegates have shown leadership and courage in what has often been a vicious debate,” he said.

“It beggars belief that Federal Labor would even be considering binding its members to vote in support of redefining marriage when it is so contentious and such a foundational institution for a healthy society.”
