The Australian Christian Lobby calls on the Federal Parliament to reject moves to set aside the legal framework governing the Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory governments as a means of pushing an euthanasia agenda.

“The Federal Parliament should not lift the lid on territorian laws and must resist any effort to repatriate Territory powers for the purpose of introducing euthanasia,” ACL managing director Lyle Shelton said.

“The ACL shares concerns raised by Senator Eric Abetz that nothing has changed since the Federal Parliament overturned the Northern Territory euthanasia laws in 1997 that warrants a reconsideration of the issue.

“The ACL is disappointed with reports that Senator Leyonhjelm has struck a deal with the Turnbull Government to allow time for the bill to be debated next year.”
