Babies Born Alive Campaign

The Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2022 is currently being discussed in our federal parliament.

Senators Matthew Canavan, Alex Antic and Ralph Babet have tabled the bill and the Community Affairs Legislation Committee is currently reviewing it. This bill responds to the fact that, every week in Australia, babies survive failed abortions and are left to die without medical assistance or even given pain relief. This is abhorrent. We would not treat our animal pets in this way!

Put simply, this bill affirms the fact that, according to natural understanding, as well as our universal commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, a child who is born alive, even after an attempted termination procedure, is a person and should be afforded the same care that any other child would be given that was born at the same gestational timeframe and clinical condition.

The committee is due to report back to the Senate by 31 August 2023.
