Around 200 people packed into the Logan Central Community Centre in Queensland last night for the Australian Christian Lobby Meet Your Candidate Forum.

Logan mayoral candidates were asked questions on infrastructure, transport and high density developments.

However, the candidate’s views on the proposed Cronulla Park greyhound racing complex drew the greatest response from the crowd.

ACL QLD director Wendy Francis said candidates strongly and unanimously opposed the proposed development of greyhound racing in Logan.

Candidate Brett Raguse stressed the 'abhorrence' of greyhound racing for the community, saying there was no place for it in Logan.

He stated: “We need to get the land back from the State Government and make it more valuable to the community. There should have been more community consultation on this proposal.”

Candidate Luke Smith has been a strong opponent of the proposed track and gambling facility and stated it was time to put a 'nail in the coffin' of the proposal.

Candidates Ken Houliston and Steve Shoard said they were against any 'animal cruelty' and John Freeman said he wanted to “give the land back to the community” for better use.

These responses were met with loud and passionate cheers and applause from the audience, drawing the strongest response from the night.

Ms Francis said it was clear that the community does not want greyhound racing in Logan. She said it was apparent that the candidates are prepared to act to stop its development.

Also met with a positive response was the candidates’ commitment to continue supporting a chaplaincy service in the Logan hospital. They also used the opportunity to affirm their support for school chaplaincy.

Ms Francis said the ACL Meet Your Candidate Forum was a unique opportunity for Christians to voice their concerns and issues with candidates.

The Logan election will be held on Saturday March 19, 2016.
