Incidents of alleged money laundering and large scale prostitution rackets as reported today in The Advertiser raise a warning against the Greens’ proposal to decriminalise prostitution in SA.

While not commenting on the present case it is likely that sex trafficking will increase should parliament pass the Greens’ bill, warns the Australian Christian Lobby.

“The inevitable consequence of the Greens’ bill will be more, not less, women trafficked in from Asian countries for exploitation by Australian men.

“This must not be.”

“Rather than supporting the complete decriminalisation and institutionalisation of prostitution in South Australia, which will allow street work in front of schools, churches, mosques and even kindergartens, South Australia could take the lead by supporting the Nordic approach.”

If the Greens desire progressive reform the Nordic approach currently legislated in Canada, France, Sweden, Norway and Ireland is the proven answer.

The Greens’ Statutes Amendment (Decriminalisation of Sex Work) Bill 2018, currently before the Legislative Council, will allow unfettered prostitution, including street prostitution, anywhere at any time.

The ACL is currently encouraging South Australians to campaign against this terrible bill by writing to their MP.
