Make SA Great – SA Parliament must reject the Pimps Protection Bill and enact Nordic

The news on Saturday 24 August that the SA Police Commissioner, Grant Stevens considers that the Prostitution Decriminalisation Bill (which decriminalises pimping and protects pimps) would place community safety at risk and allow organised crime to flourish, and the news that organised crime syndicates are operating in the SA prostitution industry, means that that House of Assembly should reject the Bill.  As the editorial in the Advertiser last Saturday stated, lower house MPs should listen to the Commissioner.

There was also important news on Friday 23 August in the In Daily Online newspaper that the Adelaide City Council (ACC) is set to oppose the decriminalisation of prostitution in SA. This is a significant development. For those of you who are ratepayers in the ACC area, please contact the Council and support this move. You can even ask to speak at the next council meeting!

For those of you in other council areas please contact your councillors and ask them to oppose the Bill.

I encourage you to contact your local state members by following the link below and ask them to join with the ACC in opposing the Bill.

The experience in New Zealand is that after decriminalisation, street work shifted to residential areas and waste was left in the streets and on private property.  Prostitution has grown exponentially.  We cannot afford to let this happen in Adelaide and SA for the sake of our young women and men.

Please continue to contact your MPs and ask them to reject this Bill and adopt the Nordic model of regulation which decriminalises the selling of sex, criminalises the buying of sex and pimping and provides real exit strategies for prostituted women and men.

In the upcoming prostitution debate and vote the numbers are very close.  We are working with a delegation of survivors this week, visiting MPs. Please keep up your contacts with MPs and your prayers, for the dignity of women and the welfare of families. Using the link below, encourage MPs to reject this Bill and introduce a Nordic model of regulation.

Let’s Make SA Great by the first Australian jurisdiction to enact Nordic model legislation. And to God be the glory.
