The Greens have drafted the Conversion Practices Prohibition Bill 2026 that will criminalise important parental, pastoral and Christian practices. This is one of the most significant pieces of legislation affecting religious and parental freedoms in Tasmania.
Conversion practices laws extend beyond banning harmful conduct, it will affect prayer, pastoral care, family conversations, and counselling where the aim is to encourage someone to live according to their biological sex or biblical convictions. The legislation applies even where that support is voluntarily requested.
The bill can be introduced to parliament as early as August and we are asking the Christian Community to stand together against this bill. In a time that requires courageous Christian leadership, we are calling Ministers, School Principals, Christian Organisations and leaders involved in Christian Ministries to sign our letter of opposition to the legislation.
