The blessing of the gospel campaign

‘The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.’ John 1:14

The Gospel of John campaign has launched in the Northern Territory, with five teams spanning the length of the Territory – in Darwin, Palmerston, Humpty Doo, Katherine and Alice Springs. We had over 70 volunteers engaged over the weekend across the 5 locations. It was so exciting to have the youngest volunteer (4 weeks old) and the oldest volunteer (90) delivering gospels, with all ages in between!

On our Day of Action over 1000 gospels were delivered in the Darwin area, almost 1100 in Palmerston and 1000 in Alice Springs, with many more in Katherine. In Palmerston, the gospels were delivered in 1.5 hours (in the heat of the day) which is an incredible effort. One volunteer commented that they felt like an Israelite in the desert! It was wonderful to have quite a few families go out together to deliver gospels. How beautiful it is to see this campaign span through the generations. It warms my heart to see children boldly sharing the gospel and wanting to be involved in God’s work, to further His Kingdom and make His Name known in all corners of the earth!

As part of our Day of Action, we had a chance to pray for volunteers participating in the delivery, to pray for those receiving the gospels and to pray for God to work powerfully through the campaign. What a privilege to pray! You may never know if the person you give a gospel to or the letterbox you drop a gospel in reaches the hands of someone who doesn’t know Jesus yet but will be standing next to you one day in heaven. What a gift it is to be used as tools in God’s Kingdom.

While delivering gospels, we met several Christian families and ACL supporters who were very happy to see us and who have been actively praying for the gospels going out. We are so thankful to be lifted up in prayer by our family in Christ and to be united as brothers and sisters in this way.

In Alice Springs, the team was very enthusiastic to hit the streets and begin their delivery! These faithful volunteers stepped out and put their feet to faith by delivering across Alice Springs. Some gospels were given to a group of Indigenous people, who were very receptive and interested in receiving the gift, especially as many do not have a Bible in their house.

In Darwin, some gospels were given out at McDonalds, others to a number of patients in a local hospital who gratefully received the gospel to read while they are unable to leave their beds, a few to a local boy and his siblings and others to a large group of people living in a Seniors Village.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who have been engaging in this campaign over the weekend and to those who are distributing them over the next few weeks. It is such a blessing to have you all involved and we pray that you have been equally blessed through this activity.

A shout out to our Volunteer Leaders across the NT who so capably ran the Gospel of John Day of Action on Saturday 24 September and who are still coordinating the campaign with our volunteers. Thank you for your dedication and faithfulness!

We pray that God continues to bless us all as the Gospel of John is distributed across the rest of Australia over the next few months. Please join us in prayer. Pray for the volunteers and team leaders, pray that hearts may be softened to receive the gospel, and pray that God can do a mighty work through this campaign. Our hope is that others will discover who Jesus is, not only in His humble humanity, but as Lord and Saviour of the world. The ‘Grace and Truth’ of God’s Word has the power to transform hearts and lives.

We look forward to hearing the testimonies of how God works in the coming weeks. If you are a volunteer with us, please send us your photos and share stories of your experiences. We’d love to hear how God is working through you!

There is still time to join the Gospel of John campaign if you haven’t already. Sign up at www.acl.org.au/volunteer and you’ll be able to join a local team. To God be the glory!

‘I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the ones who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labour.’ 1 Corinthians 3:6-8
