Last Friday night ACL supporters from Burnie to Margate joined spiritual hearts and hands to pray for the Tasmanian election.

We commenced the evening reflecting on the authority of the Lord Jesus as He expounded in Matthew 28:18, “All authority is given to Me in heaven and on earth.” We ended with Matthew 7:9-11 “Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you…”

The results of the election on Saturday 1 May 2021 show that prayer has been answered!

Of the eight candidates we prayed for (and who featured on ACL’s www.tasmaniavotes.org.au website), six appear to have been re-elected and one more is in front as counting continues.

The Liberal Party currently has 12 seats and on current trends should end up with an absolute majority of 13. Premier Gutwein recorded a record 24% swing to him and his personal vote of 48.2% is the highest any candidate has received in recent times.

I rejoice that Jacquie Petrusma, Guy Barnett, Michael Ferguson, Elise Archer, Felix Ellis (who recorded a 6.1% lift in his personal vote) and John Tucker all appear to have been re-elected. It is sad that Lara Alexander was not successful in Bass.

The Speaker Sue Hickey, whose resignation from the Liberal Party led to the election being called, appears to have lost her seat.

It is now vital for us to continue to support and pray for these members as they take up their responsibilities for another three years. Thank you for your prayers and engagement in this election!
