The Government is to be commended for its proposed school chaplaincy program, according to Jim Wallace, Managing Director of the Australian Christian Lobby.

“The Australian Christian Lobby agrees with the need for pastoral care and support to school children,” said Mr Wallace. “Growing up is never an easy process as children try to establish their own identity, try to fit into a peer group, manage school work and sometimes also handle the pressures of a complicated family situation at home.”

“Spiritual needs have often been neglected in the state school system because of a misplaced fear of anything to do with any kind of religious belief,” continued Mr Wallace. “I am pleased that those schools which choose to do so can now access federal funds to employ a school chaplain who will provide pastoral care and spiritual support to children.”
