The NT Health Minister, Natasha Fyles, has tabled a late term abortion bill called Termination of Pregnancy Law Reform Legislation Amendment Bill 2021.
The bill is brutal, allowing abortion after 24 weeks with no upper limit, despite medical advances meaning that babies are now able to survive from 23 weeks gestation. The bill has no restrictions on abortions for any reason, not even for sex selection.
More than 2,000 babies have been aborted in the NT since 2004. The introduction of abortion to birth legislation will likely increase the number of late term abortions - as it has in other states since similar laws were passed. It will also increase the number of babies who are born alive in failed abortions and left to die with no medical care or pain relief.
Please send an email now to voice your opposition to this bill. It could be debated and voted on as soon as 30 November, so it's important to act quickly. You can read the bill here.
