In more detail

Under their proposed law it will be illegal to help anyone who is seeking help from unwanted same-sex attraction. If your minister reads aloud in church 1 Corinthians 6:9–11, concluding with, “And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God”, your Minister and your church could be punished under these laws.

In addition, the Victorian Government proposes to prevent a parent affirming a child in their biological sex if the child declares they are of the opposite sex. The Government is currently suggesting, in its Discussion Paper, that such gender affirmation by a parent be declared “family violence” under the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 and could result in a court order against the parent.

To suppress your resistance to this ideological attack on your parenting, your church and Christian school, the Victorian Government is running a scare campaign based on the spectre of coercive torturous practices linked to the dark ages. In February this year, Premier Andrews described “conversion therapy” as “a most personal form of torture, a cruel practice that perpetuates the idea that LGBTI people are broken… We will drag this practice out of the dark ages…”

Convinced of the success of its scare campaign, the Victorian Government has said it will ban all conversion practices; assumes we all agree and is now seeking feedback on how to ban them.

The Government is basing its proposed ban on an October 2018 report authored by the Human Rights Law Centre, La Trobe University and Gay and Lesbian Health Victoria (HRLC report) which concludes that any response less than fully affirming of the sexual orientation or gender identity of LGBT individuals is a harmful conversion practice. The HLRC report recommends banning, as LGBT conversion, the Christian teaching that same sex-attracted people should practise abstinence.

What is under threat here is the ability of churches and faith-based schools to teach a biblical sexual ethic and a biological view of sexuality as well parents’ rights to affirm their child in their biological sex.

The good news is that the Victorian Government has asked for your feedback on this proposed ban!
