Daniel Andrews and his government has launched an attack on freedom by tabling the Public Health and Wellbeing Amendment (Pandemic Management) Bill 2021.
The bill will give the Premier and his Health Minister power to restrict movement, ban public gatherings, church attendance, close businesses, or order quarantine requirements - without any cases of a specific disease.
The Premier can renew the pandemic declaration in three-month blocks for as long as he decides.
The government will be able to enforce harsh penalties on anyone who fails to comply with its directives, including up to two years' jail, up to $90,000 in fines for individuals, or up to $500,000 for businesses.
Arbitrary directives could be issued to individuals or groups of people based on religious belief or political affiliations.
This draconian bill is being rushed through the Parliament without proper advice or consultation. Debate in the Upper House will begin on 30 November.
The bill sets up a complete apparatus for a Police State, vesting power in one person, the Premier, and close associates of that person. Parliament is sidelined. If this bill passes, democracy and the rule of law in Victoria, is almost dead. Freedom, including religious freedom are close to extinguished.
Please email your Upper House MPs now to urge them to reject this bill which undermines the rights of every Victorian, except Daniel Andrews.
