The Australian Christian Lobby has welcomed the passage of legislation which will guarantee funding to the National School Chaplaincy Program.

ACL Managing Director Jim Wallace said that despite some disagreement on minor details, both major parties have shown bi-partisan commitment to ensuring the program will continue.

“This commitment from both parties to securing the future of this highly successful program is most welcome,” Mr Wallace said.

“However, the Greens’ reaction to the High Court decision and their insistence on replacing chaplains with secular counsellors shows how out of touch they are with school communities.”

Mr Wallace said the chaplaincy program has been highly successful and has been supported by parents and school communities around the country.
