How did the Premier come to support a Labor abortion bill?

The Australian Christian Lobby is deeply concerned by the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmation that she is likely to vote for an abortion exclusion zone bill that, in her own words, is ‘flawed’.

“When the Premier confirms the bill is flawed, and the High Court is set to test the legality of these type of laws, you know there is a problem,” ACL NSW director Kieren Jackson said.

“That is why the ACL is encouraging people in NSW to ask their local MPsto act prudently before rushing into passing a bill that prevents freedom for people to support women outside abortion clinics.

“Voters have every reason to question why the co-sponsor of this bill, NSW National MLC Trevor Khan is so intent on pushing this harmful bill along with Labor MLC Penny Sharpe, and not wait until the High Court decides on the legality later in the year,” Mr Jackson said.

“Most disturbing in all of this, is that this bill will be disastrous to women who are pressured into having an abortion.  We know this is a current problem and if this bill passes many women will be left unsupported before taking the drastic step of ending the life of their unborn child.”

“We must help women pressured into abortion. Babies will unnecessarily die if the Parliament agrees to pass this flawed bill.”
