Today’s Newspoll showing majority support for the Turnbull Government’s marriage plebiscite is evidence that Australians know that the consequences of redefining marriage do not flow from the sensible centre of politics.
“Everyday Australians are waking up to the consequences of redefining marriage,” Australian Christian Lobby Managing Director Lyle Shelton said.
“Whether it is ‘men’ having babies in England, three men ‘marrying’ in Colombia, a cake decorator before the US Supreme Court, a genderless baby in Canada or children being taught their gender is fluid at their local ‘safe school’, Australians are concerned about where rainbow political ideology is taking our nation and they want a say,” Mr Shelton said.
“The consequences of the same-sex marriage movement do not flow from the sensible centre of politics,” Mr Shelton said.
“The longer we observe the consequences of redefining marriage in other countries the more we see where Australia will head if the gender diversity requirement is abolished in the Marriage Act.
“Every Australian should be allowed to have a say and the Senate cross-benchers should re-consider their opposition to a people’s vote.
“Ireland had a peaceful people’s vote as did more than 30 US States before the Supreme Court overruled the democratically expressed will of the people,” Mr Shelton said.
An ACL petition calling on the Australian Senate to pass the plebiscite legislation has attracted close to 40,000 signatures.
