The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) commends Senator Pauline Hanson’s move last night to attempt real leadership on the gender scandal and ban transgender treatments for children.
Eighteen Coalition Senators supported Senator Hanson’s bid for a ban on transgender treatments for children alongside a call for a fresh investigation into so-called “gender-affirming care”.
Michelle Pearse, CEO of the Australian Christian Lobby, said “Neither the Government nor the Opposition can continue to dismiss this issue as a nuisance of ‘culture wars’—this is an important matter of children’s safety and their subjection to experimental, harmful medications”.
“The investigation proposed on Monday positioned itself as distinct from Health Minister Mark Butler’s proposed inquiry, which doesn’t ban trans medications in the interim and has yet to guarantee impartiality.”
“It is crucial that a thorough, independent review of trans medications for children is conducted. This is nothing short of a medical scandal – vulnerable Australian children are being irreversibly harmed by medications that have been discredited in the UK, the US, and parts of Europe.” Pearse said.
The ACL urges the Government to implement an outright ban on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones in children, saying “we cannot afford to delay” in light of evidence brought to light by international systematic reviews, including the Cass Review.
