Former NT Speaker threatens to knock ACL on the head regarding VAD

Former Speaker of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, Kezia Purick   threatened physical assault towards the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) live on ABC Darwin this morning in light of Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) legislation.

Ms Purick said this morning she would “…personally knock them on the head…” in talking about our efforts around Voluntary Assisted Dying.

This statement comes one week after the NT Parliament passed a motion regarding Parliamentary Code of Conduct for Members of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly.

Nicholas Lay, NT Director of the Australian Christian Lobby said, “Ms Purick’s comments represent a hostility against the ACL and Christian Territorians trying to speak up against VAD.”

“I know so many Christian Territorians that want to speak out against VAD, but they are fearful that they will lose their jobs or suffer persecution. Ms Purick’s comments confirm this fear”.

“If we are going to have a genuine debate about whether we should adopt VAD in the Northern Territory then comments like these are not on.”
