Labor and the Greens Wave Through Large Uncontrolled Sex industry

The Queensland Labor Government’s passing of the ‘Criminal Code (Decriminalising Sex Work) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024’ highlights the Miles Government’s commitment to progressing a radical social reform agenda despite the latest polls pointing to a landslide loss at October’s election.

Queensland Director for the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), Rob Norman said, “Labor and The Greens have left vulnerable women at the mercy of the pimps and crime bosses who run the sex industry. These are the same people who are at the very underbelly of the industry.

From the outset the flawed terms of reference given to the Queensland Law Reform Commission to ‘recommend a framework for a decriminalised sex-work industry in Queensland’ omitted the best practice Equality, or Nordic, model which is known to protect vulnerable prostituted women.

“Labor have betrayed the many survivors of prostitution who carry the scars of violent abuse and exploitation.”

Mr Norman said, “I sincerely thank the MPs from the Katter Party, LNP, and One Nation who voted against this train wreck bill.”

The ACL calls on the Queensland LNP to commit to a full and proper review of Queensland sex industry if elected in October. This should include an inquiry into the best practice Equality, or Nordic, model of reform which is known to reduce the size of the sex industry, penalise the pimps and third-party profiteers, and help women exit the industry.
