Liberals Retain Government In NSW

The Australian Christian Lobby today congratulated Gladys Berejiklian for retaining government in the NSW state election.

The swing to the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers was a clear indication of voter dissatisfaction with the NSW Nationals.

ACL’s managing director Martyn Iles said, “This horrific result for the Nationals comes on the back of ACL’s tv campaign which highlighted how disconnected they have become from their socially conservative constituency.”

“ACL helped sound the alarm, and NSW voters have heard the message.”

“Over the past few years they introduced their own same-sex marriage bill, defended the now discredited Safe Schools program, and supported a bill to introduce euthanasia. These views were not supported by the voters who elected them, and I think last night’s results reflected that.”

“The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers have picked up nominally National seats in country NSW because the Nats continued to ignore their voter base and focus on issues more akin to the Greens party platform than their own.”

“We look forward to working constructively with the new Shooters, Fishers, and Farmers parliamentarians.”
