A majority of Victorians oppose the teaching of gender ideology in schools, according to new research commissioned by the Australian Christian Lobby.
The survey of 1,500 Victorians found consistent opposition across both primary and secondary education.
In primary schools, 56.87% of respondents somewhat to strongly oppose this teaching, compared to 20.73% who support it.
In secondary schools, 53.47% somewhat to strongly oppose it, while 26.27% support it.
The results come ahead of a Victorian Parents Forum in Werribee on 25 March, following strong demand after last year’s Melbourne event.
The forum will bring together families who say they have raised concerns about gender-related teaching and school culture. Some parents will share experiences of withdrawing children from schools and resisting gender ideology indoctrination.
ACL Victorian Director Jasmine Yuen said many families had felt isolated before now.
“For years, many Victorian parents suffered in silence. They believed they were alone, or that something was wrong with their parenting,” Ms Yuen said.
“But people are now speaking up about what is happening in school programs and culture.”
Ms Yuen said concerns are increasingly focused on the Consent and Respectful Relationships program.
The Australian Christian Lobby is calling on both the Government and Opposition to respond to these concerns. The views of families on education are expected to play a growing role in voting decisions during the State Election in November
