The Australian Christian Lobby praised the Queensland Minister for Health and Ambulance Services for swiftly reinstating the ban on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors, after the Supreme Court overturned the initial Health Department directive on procedural grounds.
ACL’s Queensland Director, Rob Norman, said the Minister’s directive shows strong leadership and a commitment to child safety while awaiting the findings of the independent review into Stage 1 and Stage 2 hormone therapies, due 30 November 2025.
“This is both a courageous and compassionate decision,” Mr Norman said. “Puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones are not harmless or reversible. They carry life-altering consequences — including infertility, loss of sexual function, and permanent damage to a young person’s body.”
Mr Norman said, “The directive ensures no new minors are placed on these drugs until Queensland’s own expert review is complete.”
International evidence from Sweden, Finland, Norway, and the United Kingdom has shown that such treatments offer little proven benefit and introduce significant risk of harm.
Mr Norman said, “Queensland is following science, not ideology, to protect minors from experimental treatments and uphold medical ethics and informed consent.”
The ACL urges State Governments across Australia to follow Queensland’s example in protecting children from irreversible gender-affirming medications.
