More time needed to consider 6,200 submissions on QLD abortion bill

Over 6,200 groups and individuals submitted their views regarding Jackie Trad’s radical abortion crusade to the Health Committee’s inquiry into the bill.

The Australian Christian Lobby’s state director Wendy Francis said, “this includes over seventy detailed submissions lodged by churches and community groups, academics, law groups and other peak bodies as well as more than 300 emails to the committee expressing general opposition or support to the bill.”

“The enormous amount of submissions shows this issue is one that a lot of Queenslanders have an opinion on and they each deserve to have their views properly considered.”

“Currently, the committee must report on all these submissions by October 5, giving them only three weeks to respond. This means the committee will need to read and examine 269 submissions every day to respond to all the feedback. I don’t think this is enough time to do the amount of submissions justice,” commented Mr Francis.

The Australian Christian Lobby calls on the Premier to extend the reporting date to allow proper consideration of these submissions to take place.
