The Gillard Government should move to have the three gay marriage bills before Parliament dealt with as soon as possible according to the Australian Christian Lobby.
“As we've seen with euthanasia time and again, the Greens' tactic is legislation by fatigue,” ACL Managing Director Jim Wallace said.
“With three bills before Parliament, two parliamentary inquiries and a debate that is dragging on and wasting parliamentary time, someone in the government needs to tell the Greens they have had enough time to make their point.
“This issue is distracting the Government and annoying large sections of the community,” Mr Wallace said.
It was unreasonable for the Greens to be continuing to pressure the Coalition for a conscience vote.
“The reality is that the Coalition, like Labor, made an election promise to protect the Marriage Act.
“If the Greens really stood for integrity in Parliament, they would be applauding the Coalition for its principled stance rather than constantly pressuring them to break faith with the electorate.
“The Greens have had a fair go, it is time the Government exercised its legitimate authority and brought this to a vote.”
