Anti-Discrimination Board steps back from the brink on Folau but reform is still needed

The Australian Christian Lobby has supported Israel Folau’s freedom to express his beliefs on social media as a test case for other Australian Christians.

“Whilst the NSW Anti-Discrimination Board was right to throw out a further and ‘vexatious’ case against Mr Folau yesterday, it still needs reform along the lines proposed by the Hon. Mark Latham MLC,” ACL spokesman Dan Flynn said today.

“The Board stepped back from the brink of farce by rejecting the complaint.

against Mr Folau,” Mr Flynn said, “We expect Mr Latham’s proposals to de-platform activists via NSW anti-discrimination law reform played some part in the Board throwing out this case.”

“Mr Latham’s proposals are worth considering, and I note that the complainant in this Folau case has expressed a desire to refer the case up to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Until the anti-discrimination system shuts the gate on vexatious complaints, innocent Australians will be relentlessly hunted by activists.” Mr Flynn said.
