The Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) have waved a white flag on the surging number of Australian children with cases of gender dysphoria, leaving kids on a one-way-street to hormone treatment and irreversible surgery, according to the Australian Christian Lobby.
“The Health Minister responded to petitions for a parliamentary inquiry by instead asking the RACP what the government should do,” ACL spokesman Dan Flynn said, “The same RACP had previously shown their hand, lobbying alongside paediatrician Dr Telfer for swifter underage access to hormones and less Family Court oversight,” ACL Chief Political Officer Dan Flynn observed.
Dr Michelle Telfer’s Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital gender clinic went from treating 3 children from 2003-7, to over 1,000 by the end of 2018. RCH Paediatrician Dr Telfer is a prominent supporter of Medicare funding double mastectomies for gender dysphoric teenage girls.
Professor Philip Morris, president of the National Association of Practising Psychiatrists (NAPP), criticised the RACP’s weak response for giving the Health Minister “no advice about the competing merits of the affirmative approach versus supportive, more conservative treatments of children with gender dysphoria (and) no information on the safety and effectiveness of puberty blockers and opposite-sex hormones in children and adolescents.”
The NAPP continues to call for a major review of the radical gender therapies, which over 200 health practitioners originally petitioned the Health Minister for in September.
“The ACL calls upon the Australian parliament to launch a truly independent inquiry,” Mr Flynn concluded, “Until then, there must be a moratorium on gender clinics using hormone drugs or surgically altering children. This is the only safe way forward.”
