The proponents of euthanasia in South Australia have launched a fresh bid to legalise the practice in the state.
ALP backbencher Steph Key is expected to introduce a new bill on March 10th which would amend the Palliative Care Act. The bill is co-sponsored by Liberal frontbencher Duncan McFetridge.
The aim of the bill is to give doctors a defence against criminal charges for assisting terminally ill patients to die. Ms Key says the new bill has the support of Health Minister John Hill.
This new attempt to progress euthanasia laws follows the defeat late last year of another bill prepared by Key and Greens MP Mark Parnell in the state’s Upper House.
