Since 1990, more than 1 billion people have been lifted out of extreme poverty. In 1990, nearly half of the population in the developing regions lived on less than $1.25 a day.
Remarkable progress has been made but there is still more work to be done to lift the remaining 800 million people worldwide out of extreme poverty.
Agreed to by all the world's countries and all the world's leading development institutions, the MDGs form a blueprint for helping the world's poorest by 2015.
Sadly Australia has failed to meet its MDG targets and groups like ACL and others are working to encourage the Australian Government to recommit to meeting our MDG targets.
