Political opinions shouldn’t cost your job

No one should be sacked for expressing their personal political opinions online, Martyn Iles Managing Director of the Australian Christian Lobby said today.

Revelations that Angela Williamson was sacked by Cricket Australia following tweets to her personal twitter serves as a reminder that stifling free speech impacts every Australian.

“Although the ACL vehemently disagrees with Williamson’s opinion on abortion, losing her job should not have been the consequence for expressing her personal political beliefs.

“This case further highlights the absurdity of Dr David van Gend being sent to the Medical Board for two tame tweets he posted about gender theory and same-sex marriage.

The Australian Christian Lobby has written to the Health Minister Greg Hunt regarding proposed changes to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority code of conduct to limit doctor’s speech and will continue to lobby for the fundamental freedoms of religion, conscience and thought for all Australians.
