Media Release: Thursday, 26 February, 2009

Queensland’s political parties need to confirm that they will place Australian Sex Party-affiliated candidates last on how-to-vote cards in the March 21 election, according to the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL).

“The Australian Sex Party has already announced its intention to run ‘independent’ candidates in the three seats held by the Premier, Opposition Leader, and sole Greens’ MP. This is the time each of these high profile MPs and their political parties should be making it clear that there will be no preference deals with these candidates,” ACL Managing Director Jim Wallace said today.

“The Australian Sex Party exists to represent the interests of businesses who make money from the exploitation and degradation of women.

“If Labor, the LNP and the Greens believe women should be respected and are concerned about the enormous damage caused by pornography and prostitution then they should be demonstrating this by having nothing to do with the Sex Party or its affiliated candidates.”

"We note that the parties have been quick to state that they will not give preferences to Pauline Hanson in the Queensland election, and rightly so given her inappropriate views on race and other issues.

“How much more should the Australian Sex Party and its ‘independent’ candidates be treated in this way given their inappropriate views about women?"
