Tasmanian ALP Senator Helen Polley, a long time advocate of baby safe havens, has launched a new petition
to the Senate calling on the parliament to support the establishment of baby safe havens.
In launching the new petition, Senator Polley said
baby safe havens “are very successful internationally and the cost involved in their set up is very minimal”.
In her recent parliamentary speech
on the issue, Senator Polley explained that circumstances like the the recent tragedy of a baby abandoned in a Hobart park could be avoided if a woman, who felt she could not care for her new baby, had the option of leaving the baby in a safe location.
