Kanye West has created a violent video against women for his new ”Monster” song. A leaked 30-second version of the clip by HipHopConnection.com shows dead women, in lingerie, hanging by chains around their necks and West making sexual moves towards dead or drugged women. Social commentator Melinda Tankard Reist said it increases desensitized and callous attitudes toward violence against women.

“When I see these images, I see violence against women. I see glamourised misogyny and eroticised violence. I don’t see Kanye’s carnival of carnage as an art form or as post-modern cultural commentary,” she wrote on her website.

Reist and Sharon Hayword, a Canadian born writer, body-image activist and feminist, have set up a petition to stop the official release of the video. So far more than 6,300 people have signed the petition but they are now aiming for more than 10,000 signatures. Get involved and sign the petition here.
